We have a celebrity on our books, since Materia’s Omni armchair landed a cameo role in this summer’s Ridley Scott blockbuster, Prometheus.
Much of the filming was done in the UK, where Marc Bird, Kinnarps UK’s Head of Marketing, explains how Omni’s casting came about: ‘We had a call from the designers working on the Prometheus set at London’s Pinewood Studios. Set Decorator, Sonja Klaus had seen a picture of our Omni armchair in a feature in the Evening Standard and decided its sleek silver and white styling was perfect for the futuristic vision of a particular area of the Prometheus space ship: the quarters of the character called Vickers, played by Charlize Theron. As Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (of Girl with The Dragon Tattoo fame) also stars in the film, we thought it only fair that Charlize should benefit from some Scandinavian style too!’
Described by 20th Century Fox as: “Perhaps the most elaborate set on the Prometheus”, Vickers’ quarters are more akin to a plush Fifth Avenue apartment than a cabin on an interstellar vehicle. The space is resplendent with designer furnishings both old and new, including a Fazoili piano, Swarovski chandeliers – and a high-tech medical facility featuring a robotic medical pod (Med-pod) that can treat any medical need…or surgical emergency.
Under the auspices of Academy Award winning production designer Arthur Max, Prometheus has critically acclaimed design credentials. ‘The film’s reputation for attention to design detail makes us even more proud that Omni was chosen for Vicker’s quarters.’ comments Marc Bird. ‘It’s very gratifying that Materia’s Red Dot Design Award-winning product was deemed suitably stylish for such a high quality production.’
Prometheus is directed by Sir Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien, Blade Runner), from a screenplay by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. The film’s stellar cast includes Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron and is now on general release.
