Citycon Finland Oy

BACKGROUND

Citycon is an active owner and developer of shopping centres. The company creates surroundings for successful retail. Citycon's properties serve both consumers and retailers. The company takes into account the environment's needs as well as the wellbeing of the surrounding areas. Citycon owns 36 shopping centres and 45 other business properties and manages and develops two other shopping centres. 23 of the shopping centres owned by the company are located in Finland, 9 are in Sweden and 4 in the Baltic countries. Citycon moved its Finnish operations head office from Helsinki city centre to the Iso Omena shopping centre in Espoo. The previous premises were divided into private offices and small open-plan offices.

GOAL

The goal was to create a working open-plan office in the new premises. Several client conference rooms were on the wish list as well. The aim was to bring new and fresh solutions for both the open-plan office and the conference rooms. The client also wanted to use as much of the existing furniture and structures as possible in the new premises.

SOLUTION

The acoustics of the open-plan office was taken into consideration from the start. High, space-splitting solutions were avoided to maintain the open space. The work stations were fitted with grade A noise reducing table screens and personal cupboards which can be used to turn the work station into a "private nook" if needed. All work stations were fitted with electrically height-adjustable desks and drawers that function as a side table, drawers and rubbish containers. A living room feel was created in the reception area to welcome both guests and employees. All conference rooms were individually furnished, starting with the colour scheme. In addition to traditional conference facilities there are more relaxed meeting spots with medium-high tables and stools. Special attention was paid to the functionality of the electrical installations: the conference rooms were fitted with self-coiling wires to keep the space tidy and ready for use for the next group. Recycling was also included in the plans: easy-to-use and beautiful sorting cabinets were designed for waste disposal.
