Good ergonomics are good economics

A profitable investment
An area of research which is gaining more and more attention is the one that examines the connection between ergonomic measures and profitability. Research clearly indicates that there is a connection. If people feel well they perform well and costs of illness and rehabilitation are reduced. In the same way that you invest in the maintenance of expensive machinery, you need to invest in maintaining your most important resource; people. That’s all there is to it.

“The working environment affects company finances in several ways. It affects the company’s productivity and quality of what is produced or performed and also incurs costs resulting from absence due to illness, staff turnover, etc.”
/from Estimate of the working environment’s economic effects on companies and
organisations, 2006, Linda Rose and Ulf Orrenius
