Exciting Art

It is usually said that art is found where you least expect to find it. And this is never more true than with these high voltage pylons in Iceland.

These enormous giants in the form of electricity pylons are  exactly what design is all about. How can something so mundane and downright ugly be converted into something exciting and beautiful which is impossible to stop looking at? The pylons are 50 metres tall, but depending on the terrain, their "posture" changes. The giants stretch out when the power lines have to hang high and free above the valleys, and other times they bend down or they are paired together and interact with each other. Choi + Shine is an American architectural firm that came up with the proposal that will hopefully soon be built on Iceland. In addition to the concept itself being extremely innovative, it is also interesting that it manages to include two of today's most burning issues - art and the environment. Or as the Austrian Die Welt writes in a comment: "If high voltage power lines must travel above ground, why not turn them into art. People will travel from all over the world to see them."
