BACKGROUND: GROWING IN THE UK
As Europe’s leading workspace furniture supplier, Kinnarps looked to grow its UK business by working more with the design and specifier market, which required a show space in Clerkenwell – the design heart of London – whilst continuing to offer complete solutions to its customer base of public and private companies. Having secured an ideal location for a flagship London space in Turnmill Street, Kinnarps began the process of planning and designing the interior of its new premises. The property offered four separate levels of floor space as well as street frontage.
CHALLENGE: RESEARCH BROUGHT TO LIFE
Kinnarps wanted to use the space to trial and experiment with new ideas for working environments. Reviewing research it had already undertaken over the past decade with Professor Jeremy Myerson and his team at the Royal College of Art, Kinnarps were keen to continue this work and build a ‘living example’ of the conclusions… suggesting spaces based on three generic types of workspace: Concentration, Collaboration and Contemplation; the 3 Cs.
SOLUTION: ACTIVITY BASED WORKING
The space is now a working environment based on the 3Cs concept combined with a business lounge and a hospitality café; whilst also working as a holistic product showroom. A choice of settings allows staff to move to the one most suited to the task in hand without compromise. “We have created a hub in London where we welcome guests to see both products and vision,” says Colin Fox, Kinnarps UK’s Managing Director.
