Kinnarps nominated for EMAS Awards 2009

Kinnarps was nominated by The Swedish Environmental Management Council (SEMCo) for the EMAS Award 2009; one of the most prestigious awards in environmental management in Europe.

Kinnarps, Europe’s second largest supplier of workspace interior solutions, has strived to protect resources, people and their surroundings since their founding in 1942. Earlier this year Kinnarps also won the Excellent Green Supplier of the Year award in Sweden.

“It is really pleasant that the Swedish Environmental Management Council thinks we are the foremost company in Sweden and has decided to nominate us for this prestigious award. It shows that our efforts in the environmental field, which we started decades ago, are truly successful, says Tomas Ekström, Kinnarps Quality and Environmental Manager.

The European Commission instigated the EMAS Award to promote preventive environmental work. The competition has an annual theme and this year the award will be rewarding issues concerning supply chain including green procurement. Only one nominee per Member State in each of five categories can be put forward and Kinnarps was the Swedish nominee within the large organisations (more than 250 employees) category.

The 19th of November the European Commission held the official award ceremony in the Atrium Restaurant of the National Museum in Stockholm for all the nominees. In the large organisation category were, along with Kinnarps, Iberdrola Genaracion S.A.U, one of the largest energy companies in the world and Audi Hungary Motor Kft. The winner was VAE Eisenbahnsysteme from Austria.

“Just to be nominated is a prize in itself. It shows that Kinnarps’ environmental work is in the front edge among the companies in Europe. This really stimulates us do to things even better in the future”, says Tomas Ekström.
