AppCampus is the biggest mobile application accelerator in the world and it has been funded by Nokia and Microsoft with 18 million euros. It is located in the Open Innovation House at Aalto University where it shares the 4th floor with Nokia Research Center. There is 1000 m2 of space, promoting the feeling of an open work environment. This is why the staff does not have private offices. Instead, the space has been divided into peaceful and more noisy working areas. The AppSpace has various team work areas, including the 'Angry Birds' telephone room, which has a plush toy pool, and three log cabins for intensive team meetings and sleeping.
The Aalto University AppCampus was designed to support boundary breaking research and creative activities by enabling rich and active interaction. The campus is being developed and built in stages and in an economically and ecologically sustainable manner.
The aim is to create a vibrant and interactive research and learning environment where work, study, hobbies and living intertwine naturally.
The furniture included in the interior design provided by Kinnarps supports open communication. The hot desk tables are light and spacious and the Salida chairs are suitable for a longer-lasting work session. The Monolite chairs with their high backrests create a more peaceful and private discussion area and bring colour to the open space, as do the colour panels, which are attached to the table screens to improve the audio environment. The bright interior is linked to the AppCampus logo colour scheme. The network access and power supply connections fitted in the sofas and tables will enable the use of devices anywhere without the fear of batteries running out in the middle of a session.
The campus café/hallway has been fitted with wooden Oak chairs, Slitz tables and Turner bar stools. The cabins have also been furnished with different usage needs in mind either with work stations or solutions suitable for rest.
