The materials we surround ourselves with have an enormous effect on us. At Kinnarps, we have a long tradition of using pure materials in our furnishings wherever possible. When we talk about pure materials, we mean the entire chain - from the choice of raw materials and the conditions in which those materials have been produced and how they affect us when we use them, to how easy it is to recycle products as their service life gradually comes to an end.

From the outset our philosophy has been that the workplace should adapt to people, not the other way around.

Today it’s more important than ever to furnish workplaces to meet the needs of a diverse range of employees. In order to get the team working at their full capacity, everyone needs the opportunity to fulfil their potential, irrespective of needs, age, sex, weight, height and language. Therefore, you have to begin from extremes, and not take a ’man in the street’ approach when furnishing a workplace.

We develop our products and furnishing solutions in close collaboration with researchers, architects, designers and ergonomists. Examples of products with inclusive design are height-adjustable desks and adjustable task chairs with an intuitive design that makes them easy to adjust and customise perfectly to the shape of the body.

Where others see a chair or a desk, we see hundreds of ways to work towards a more sustainable future. We continually strive to improve the entire value chain to the best possible effect.

We are continually working on improved ergonomics and inclusive design and have stringent requirements in respect of materials choices and construction.
Design
We use either certified wood or wood derived from sources we monitor. Also we never accept fabrics that do not fulfil our stringent requirements.
Raw Materials
We avoid using substances that are hazardous to both health and the environment, using alternative solutions wherever possible.
Production
We have extensive experience in creating a good working environment. We share this when we collaborate with our customers and installing our solutions.
Sales
Our own optimised transport system ensures that vehicles are loaded to match the delivery schedule. We maintain an optimum filling degree of over 90%.
Distribution

Use
By extending the service life of our solutions and re-using resources, we create raw material loops.

Milestones

1942 An old motorbike is converted to both a trailer and a machine in the factory - right from the outset, it has been necessary to use the resources that were available.
1952 Collaboration begins with customers’ ergonomists in certain projects - today ergonomics is a natural part of the production development process.
1959 A dedicated transport system is introduced, which now maintains high filling degree in both directions of travel and blankets are used instead of single use packaging.
1989 Production of height-adjustable desks begins.
1980 UV painting replaces solvents.
1977 Manufacturing of briquettes from waste begins, since 1982 these briquettes have also been used to heat premises in parts of the town of Kinnarp.
1997 The first environmental report is published.
1997 Kinnarps is environmentally certified in accordance with ISO 14001.
1997 Kinnarps offers customers a recycling service for their old furniture.
2008 In-house manufacture of padding and Re:fill introduced in our products.
2007 A cutting program optimises textile resource use.
2002 Kinnarps becomes FSC-certified. The company launches its first FSC certified products as standard in 2013.

Kinnarps Basic Values

Strenuous Rights at Work and labour standards, respect for the environment and social responsibility is a natural part of the Swedish culture. These issues are reflected in the Kinnarps basic values which are important to us and we work systematically to ensure that they are adopted by the whole organisation. Kinnarps basic values are a direct heritage from Kinnarps’ founders which colours all our operations – all the way from how we do business to how we interact together. Kinnarps Supplier Code of Conduct

We are convinced that sustainable growth will be achieved along with suppliers that share our vision and ambition. We can do good business while being a good business, through co-operation, mutual trust and respect between the supplier and Kinnarps.

Kinnarps encourages suppliers to promote environmental, social, and economic development and to contribute to the sustainability of the communities in which they operate.

Supplier compliance

The Supplier Code of Conduct is applicable to all Kinnarps operations and to any part that contributes to Kinnarps products, services or business activities from the supply chain. Kinnarps therefore requires suppliers to comply with the Kinnarps Supplier Code of Conduct – even if the Code stipulates a higher standard than is required by law.

Acceptance and compliance of the requirements in the Supplier Code of Conduct shall be effective immediately upon a reached agreement.

Evidence and verification of compliance shall be presented upon request. Compliance is verified and maintained through audits (second or third party) or through other appropriated verification.

The Supplier is requested to accept responsibility to ensure that its workers and subcontractors are informed and in compliance with the Kinnarps Supplier Code of Conduct.

Identified and/or reported violation of the Code is properly investigated. Violations can lead up to and including termination of contract.

Swedish furniture labelling that has a clear focus on sustainability. It covers product requirements within the areas of quality, environment and supplier requirements for social responsibility. Kinnarps has chosen to focus on Möbelfakta for the Swedish market, a choice based on the fact that Möbelfakta covers quality, environment and social responsibility, which is completely in line with Kinnarps sustainability work. A global standard for responsible forestry. This means environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. The label also sets demands for traceability in the supply chain, and that each link in the chain must be certified. Kinnarps was part of developing the first forest standard for FSC in Sweden and we are continuing to be a part of the development of it. NF Environnement

The only official environmental label for furniture in France. Covers product requirements in respect of quality and environment, and producer environmental requirements. The environmental requirements for NF Environnement are based on life cycle analysis, just as many other environmental labels. Consideration is given to raw material extraction, the transportation process, the manufacturing process and how the product can be recycled. GS (GEPRÜFT SICHERHEIT)

A German quality label for furniture that covers European legal requirements in respect of safety and, in certain cases, imposes more stringent requirements than those dictated by law. The GS label is highly appreciated by consumers and manufacturers in Germany, but it also has high reputation in the rest of Europe. The label indicates that the product complies with European standards and specific authority demands made by the ZLS. It also includes some environmental requirements on the materials. EU Ecolabel

The EU Ecolabel is EU's official eco-label for products and services. The criteria for fabrics cover product requirements for quality and environment and producer demands on the environment. Kinnarps has a large assortment of fabrics in the standard range that are marked with the EU Ecolabel. Here you can see which fabrics are labelled.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is a global labelling for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of processing.
