Prepare to be hugged by Kinnarps' new chair range Embrace. It is a new type of chair, designed by Stefan Brodbeck, which can be used to collect one's thoughts, to get ready to tackle the next challenge or just take a proper break.
Stefan Brodbeck is a renowned industrial designer from Germany, whose portfolio boasts many international design award-winning products. His design studio ‘Brodbeck Design’ works in various fields; from office and home furniture to several facets of industrial design. Brodbeck Design follows the ideology that design should be based on people. This suited Kinnarps perfectly, as it wanted to create a new chair range perfectly designed for the modern worker. Embrace is a chair family to use in informal meetings, in communication spaces, when you want to work with your tablet or to use in conferencing areas. It is not a classic task chair nor is it a classic visitor chair. It is something in between.
‘Embrace is a reaction to changing workplace behaviour and new ways of communication. I wanted to find a solution that enabled users to work in different work settings effectively. The result is a versatile and multi-functional chair family. The design encourages a balance between active working at the desk and recharging in a relaxing position.’ explains Stefan Brodbeck.
Embrace, which is Kinnarps' and Stefan Brodbeck's first project together, is characterised by gentle curves and a smooth geometry. The design expresses simplicity and sustainability and the point where the chair back and seat meet has been a particular area of focus for Brodbeck. His goal has been to create the impression that the chair’s elements hover free from each other, to increase the sense of activity, energy and vitality.
The Embrace chair family is available in five different finishes and can be fitted with skids, cantilevers, a four-star base, a five-star base or legs. Embrace also offers well-designed armrests as well as the option to add castors for those requiring greater mobility. As a result, Embrace can be used in many environments - in temporary workplaces, in cafés, in lounges, in classrooms and in meeting rooms. Its diversity also makes it useful in activity-based working environments.
Kinnarps launches Embrace in 2014 and the chair range will be sold in walnut, oak, beech and birch veneer. Skids, cantilevers and legs are available in a black, white, silver or chrome finish. The star base is available in a black, silver or chrome finish. The chair seat can be upholstered in all fabrics from Kinnarps' large fabric collection, greatly increasing the opportunities to personalise the finish.
