Reorganisation at Kinnarps

To meet its market objectives, Kinnarps is planning to reorganise its operations in Minden in Germany. The plan is to relocate production from the German operations to the Kinnarps production facilities in Sweden and, at the same time, establish a new International Design Centre in Minden.

Today Kinnarps informed the staff concerned of the proposal and will now initiate negotiations with union representatives. A total of 140 people in Minden will be affected by this reorganisation. The production is expected to be relocated during the first half of 2014 and the new International Design Centre is expected to be opened soon.

The new Design Centre in Minden will be the first of its kind outside Sweden and will work with the Drabert and MartinStoll product brands together with customer service. Since earlier Kinnarps has two International Design Centres in Sweden, one in Skillingaryd with a focus on Interior Spaces, and the other in Kinnarp with a focus on Workstations.

-    "It is our wish to offer customers complete working environments. This means that we require expertise in a number of different areas. We are now bringing together our expertise in the areas of design, technology, construction and development at three International Design Centers within the Group to speed up product development and expand our offering. The object is to develop new concepts and providing customers with winning interior solutions," says Per-Arne Andersson, CEO at Kinnarps AB.

The reorganisation proposal also includes an initiative to focus chair production to the facilities in Sweden. The plan is to move the production in Minden to Kinnarps' production facilities in Jönköping and Skillingaryd. By concentrating the chair production, Kinnarps expects to achieve the economies of scale which are necessary for the future.

-    "We anticipate major rationalisation benefits with this change. By concentrating chair production to Sweden, we can make better use of our machinery fleet at our Swedish facilities”, says Per-Arne Andersson.

Jörg Pannekoike, MD at Kinnarps Germany, comments:

-    "The production of seating furniture has a long tradition in Minden and our employees have a lot of knowhow and long-time experience. It is not an easy choice to propose this reorganisation; however we have done an intensive and profoundly analyse to evaluate all the consequences. The units in Sweden are two of the industry's top factories in Europe in terms of efficiency and modernity. The reorganisation enables us to secure the high quality of our products and brands. With the establishment of the new International Design Centre in Minden, we will strengthen our market position in Germany and increase the speed, efficiency and quality of our product development.”
