Contemporary technology

The German city of Dortmund has received a rather unusual public installation: a rocky island that offers both free WiFi access and eight charging stations for mobile phones. Perhaps it would suit the new lobby at the office?

Merging natural materials and high technology is what the future is all about. This unique public sculpture is called "Stein mit Vollausstattung", which means "Fully equipped rock". It has been installed in the centre of Dortmund for the past few weeks and from a distance it does look like a large giant rock. But the rock meets all the real needs of urban life: Internet and phone charging stations. As the installation requires electricity and is also located in a sunny but windy junction, a small wind turbine and solar panels have been erected to make the sculpture as eco-friendly as possible.
