M&WW Fire and Rescue Service
A variety of needs - one complete solution
Move from 'Cellular' to 'Open-plan' working
The new headquarters of the M&WW Fire and Rescue Service has made extensive use of furniture from Kinnarps to create a flexible, comfortable and modern working environment. Selection of Kinnarps furniture followed extensive discussion with several furniture suppliers, as well as design proposals and a visit to Kinnarps' premises by the fire service to assess the quality of the products.

Innovative Design Proposals
"Kinnarps gave a great deal of thought to this aspect of the layout and we were very impressed with their innovative design proposals," recalled Richard Davies of the fire service's premises department. "In particular, provision has been made for line managers to discuss issues with staff in private, while maintaining the general open ambience. Many of the staff had reservations about open plan offices bu the feedback has been very positive since they moved into the building," he added.
The fact that Kinnarps is OGC approved and was able to deliver within tight timeframes were also factors in its favour.
The new building currently houses 66 staff with provisions for hot desking and has the capacity for this to increase to 80 as additional departments are migrated from other premises.
Appeasing Concerns over new open plan spaces
A key factor in the design of the open plan offices was the need to appease concerns amongst staff, the majority of whom were moving from cellular office layouts to the new open plan spaces.
