CEPOL chooses Kinnarps for refurbishment of new headquarters
European Police College (CEPOL) chooses Swedish design.
The European Police College (CEPOL) has recently taken occupation of newly refurbished offices in Bramshill in the heart of the Hampshire countryside.
Following a successful bid by the UK Government to host CEPOL the decision was made to use the home of CENTREX (the Central Police Training and Development Authority) for the Headquarters of CEPOL Secretariat.
CEPOL was established in 2001 and became a fully-fledged body of the European Union on 1st January 2006. Its main purpose is to train senior police officers from the Member States within the EU. The secretariat, headed by the Director who is assisted by 20 plus staff members, deals with educational, administrative, financial and logistical support to the Member States.

Light, future-proof design
Ulf Goransson, the Director of CEPOL asked the Architects to make the building as open and as light as possible and furniture suppliers to provide furniture in keeping with the open and light spaces. “The design of the furniture is important, as is the quality” said Mr Goransson “as we wanted furniture that will last into the future, not just for tomorrow.”
The design included 20 offices, 3 meeting rooms and open areas for the reception, library, internet café and an informal “think tank” area. It was important to CEPOL that the furniture had simple lines to fit in with the architectural ambience of the building.
The co-ordinator for planning the furniture requirements within CEPOL House was Brenda Scott. Her role included liaising with staff to assess not only their immediate storage requirements but also requirements for the future. This task was made doubly difficult by the fact that some of the staff was on short term secondments and the furniture they selected needed to be suitable for future users. Brenda said “We selected Kinnarps to supply the furniture as they were the only company able to offer a total solution for our unique requirements for each area in the building.”
“This is the first time I have worked with Kinnarps, but it certainly will continue. We received a professional service from the first telephone call to the final piece of furniture being installed” said Brenda Scott. She went on to say “When the building was not ready to receive the furniture, Kinnarps provided the answer to our problem. Nothing was too much trouble for them.”
