Suomen Yliopistokiinteistöt Oy (SYK) is a nationwide campus developer that owns and develops properties on university campuses outside the capital region in Finland. SYK develops attractive campus environments and creates opportunities for regional growth by combining science and research with business life and vibrant city life. SYK provides its clients with efficient space solutions and tailor-made premises to meet their needs.
SYK's operations principles include actively developing the company's own work environment through a culture of experimentation. In this project, the goal was to update the work environment of an office space on the Hervanta campus in Tampere. The project in question was SYK's third multi-purpose office space renovation project.
"The new office is extremely functional and we are very happy with our new workspace. The conference rooms are in constant use and they work well. The communal workspace is extremely popular. Radiating a positive atmosphere, the café-like break room is the heart of our office, where we charge our batteries during the workday."
MID-HEIGHT MEETING TABLE WITH ROCKING STOOLS
The space benefits from a portable multi-purpose wall element with an integrated writing and magnetic board made of glass and a writing board that can be hidden behind a screen.
VERSATILE AND POPULAR BREAK ROOM

The tango meeting room is well-equipped for online meetings
The project team wanted the furniture selected for the new office space to support SYK's image, functional working practices and the employees' well-being. In the selection process, the project team paid special attention to different aspects of sustainable development as well as the functionality of the furniture, without sacrificing proper ergonomics.
When planning the interior solution, the project team prioritised versatility and ergonomics of the furniture, modifiability of the rooms as well as portability of the furniture. In addition to promoting the company's work culture, one of the project goals was also to implement solutions that bring people together.
The interior solution of the new office space is based on the Kinnarps Next Office model which promotes active and activity-based working and offers versatile workspaces that support different tasks. The innovation corner is ideal for group working, while the interior solution of the Tango meeting room was selected especially for online meetings.
The office has a cosy café-like break room as well as meeting rooms with different furniture depending on what the room is used for: decision making, innovating and planning.
The rooms offer plenty of different options. The ball-shaped chairs in the break room have proven to be very popular among the office staff, as have the 'stopping-by' workstation and the treadmill desk.
Quiet rooms offer space for working without interruptions, while the relaxed communal space is a popular chatting and brainstorming spot where employees can chat and express their ideas without having to keep their voices down, and while listening to background music.
