Kinnarps part of exciting design collaboration
"For us, it is important to participate in this type of design collaboration. It is always interesting to see what kinds of innovative design thoughts and ideas students have in the areas we work with. We have seen a lot of positives in this project with Beckmans College of Design where the focus has been on a product that fits well into today´s flexible way of working.”
The design briefs to the students contained terms such as flexibility, mobility, multifunctional, durability, circularity and homeliness. Planning new environments for offices, schools and healthcare requires new flexible solutions and furniture. Our way of working tends to be more flexible and mobile and we also adapt our equipment accordingly.
The result is a product prototype called Cael, which is a flexible laptop table for the public space. The design process was based on the semiotics of the wheel. They wanted to communicate movement through a graphic expression.
"The table is easy to handle, mobile and adapted for lower-seated people. To take advantage of the company's manufacturing skills in steel, we were inspired by the classic product Jig from Kinnarps. The intention has always been to have a low material consumption and few elements in production. Cael is meant to be in a changing work landscape with an optimistic design language".
The result of this collaboration will be shown in a mini-exhibition of Greenhouse in the Superellipse on Sergels Torg during Stockholm Design Week 8-13 February 2021.
