The Modernisation of Scania Poland’s Headquarters

A Partnership Built on Comfort, Functionality and Design

Scania Polska S.A., the general distributor and representative of the Swedish Scania CV AB, is a company with over 30 years of history. Its name has long been synonymous with reliability, quality and innovation in the transport industry. The company operates on clearly defined values — respect, ethical business practices and employee development — which naturally influenced both the workplace concept and the customer service environment. These values became the foundation for the modernisation of the ground floor of Scania’s headquarters in Stara Wieś near Warsaw — a project entrusted to Kinnarps Poland.

A New Beginning After 25 Years

After a quarter of a century of continuous use, Scania Poland decided to refurbish 670 m² of space on the ground floor, including the Customer Service Office, Sales Department, company restaurant, conference rooms and a dedicated drivers’ lounge. The goal was to create a modern, comfortable and welcoming environment that reflects the brand’s values while addressing the current needs of both employees and clients.

The project was complex and demanding due to the requirement to maintain full operational continuity. The refurbishment had to be completed in stages to ensure uninterrupted work for customer service and maintenance teams, which serve many clients every day.

“Our cooperation with Kinnarps Poland has continued uninterrupted for 25 years. Every joint project confirms their high level of professionalism, timeliness and deep understanding of our needs. Thanks to their solutions, our offices have become spaces that support the development of our employees and enhance everyday work.”

Tomasz Skalski, Administration Department Manager, Scania Polska S.A.

Large glass façades bring abundant natural daylight into the building, allowing lush greenery to thrive and enhancing the wellbeing of employees and visitors. A variety of organically shaped seating furniture in natural colours combines comfort with functionality, creating ideal spaces for both work and relaxation.

Nature Indoors

One of the most innovative aspects of the project was the introduction of biophilic design — an approach that connects workplace environments with nature. In the automotive industry, such solutions are still uncommon, yet for the Kinnarps and Scania teams it was clear that nature could bring balance, calm and improved wellbeing into the interiors.

In the Customer Service Office, where drivers and business partners often spend extended periods waiting for inspections or repairs, greenery plays a key role. Plants became an integral part of the arrangement — not merely a decoration, but a functional design element. Greenery helps reduce stress, supports concentration and brings a tangible sense of comfort appreciated by both staff and visitors.

GOOD TO KNOW

Biophilic design: A science-backed approach for healthier workplaces

There is a growing trend in architecture and workplace design to introduce natural elements into office environments. This approach, known as biophilic design, offers numerous benefits. While greenery once served as a finishing touch, it is now considered at the planning stage as an essential component of wellbeing-oriented interiors.

The rotating Apollo chair paired with a Matsumoto table allows for comfortable laptop work in the waiting area. A harmonious, cohesive colour palette promotes relaxation.

The Ambient sofa and Fields coffee table create a comfortable waiting space in the reception zone.

In the drivers’ lounge, Scandinavia sofas accompanied by Cassia low tables provide a cosy setting for a coffee break and moments of rest.

Natural Colours and Materials

The colour scheme draws inspiration from nature — soft greens, beiges and browns — combined with wood accents and pleasant textiles to create a peaceful, calming atmosphere. Large glazed areas and well-designed lighting maximise daylight, enhancing the sense of openness and connection with the surroundings.

According to the Kinnarps interior designers, biophilic elements are particularly valuable in spaces where people spend long hours — often waiting or concentrating. In Scania Poland’s headquarters, greenery and natural materials became both an aesthetic enhancement and a functional tool supporting wellbeing and balance between work and rest.

The elegant Yarn lounge chair, featuring a hand-woven hemp-rope backrest, blends comfort with sustainability — perfectly aligned with the biophilic concept guiding the interior design.

In the Customer Service Office, where drivers and partners often wait for vehicle maintenance, greenery again plays a vital role. Large windows and expertly planned lighting optimise natural light, heightening the feeling of spaciousness and connection with the outside world.

The interior colour palette is based on nature-inspired hues — muted greens, beiges and browns — which, combined with wood and soft textiles, create a calm and soothing atmosphere. One example of this approach is the Pio sofa, whose modular design allows endless configuration possibilities.

A New Quality of Space

The result of this collaboration is an interior that blends modernity with harmony. The reception area has been transformed into a welcoming space, complete with a dedicated zone for courier deliveries and built-in storage that separates public areas from the sanitary facilities. The customer waiting area has taken on the character of a relaxation zone — with comfortable seating, thoughtful lighting and numerous natural accents.

The company restaurant, designed for 68 people, has become a place for daily meetings and regeneration. Its interior combines natural materials, wood and subtle lighting, creating a friendly atmosphere that supports team integration. Additionally, part of the workshop hall was converted into a modern conference room — an example of a creative approach to spatial adaptation, where the industrial character harmonises with contemporary acoustic and interior design solutions.

The company restaurant has become a place for daily meetings and regeneration. Its arrangement combines natural materials, thoughtful acoustic solutions and subtle lighting, creating a welcoming atmosphere that encourages team interaction and integration.

In arranging the company restaurant, various furniture heights were used to create an inviting, multifunctional place for meetings and team bonding. The high Alto sofa, paired with Uni tables and Anagram bar stools, supports short interactions or quick coffee breaks, while the comfortable Yarn chairs encourage a slower, more relaxed meal.

A pleasant acoustic environment — essential for calm dining and group conversations — is achieved through numerous Vibe acoustic solutions.

In the publicly accessible company restaurant, comfortable Yes chairs made of natural wood, large Oberon tables and abundant greenery were used to create a space where visitors can unwind alone or enjoy a meal with colleagues.

The Final Result — A Space People Want to Spend Time In

The new interiors at Scania Poland represent more than a simple office refurbishment — they are a thoughtfully designed work environment that merges technology with nature, and efficiency with comfort. The spaces support concentration, collaboration and relaxation, while the friendly atmosphere has a positive impact on the wellbeing of all users.

The modernisation of Scania Poland’s headquarters is an example of a project where technology and design meet nature. Through the use of biophilic design elements, an interior was created that not only impresses aesthetically, but also significantly enhances user comfort and wellbeing. This project demonstrates that even in the automotive industry, it is possible to create human-centred work environments — where modernity goes hand in hand with harmony and a sustainable approach to space.

“We appreciate the professionalism, availability and calm approach of the Kinnarps team. Thanks to the engagement of all parties, we were able to create spaces where people simply want to be.”
